As soon as they have an Internet connection, apps frequently update themselves automatically. You can modify the settings to restrict automatic updates to times when your smartphone is logged into a Wi-Fi network.
Tap the profile image in the top right corner of the Google Play app after it is open.
From the pop-up menu, select Settings and then Network Preferences.
You can choose between the following choices under the submenu: App download preference, Auto-update apps, and Auto-play movies. For each of the three choices, select Over Wi-Fi exclusively.
Substituting data-hungry apps
Some apps load with increased data usage. Fortunately, a number of them have a lighter version that doesn’t need a quick Internet connection to launch, like Facebook Lite or Instagram Lite. They don’t have all the features of the original version, but they nevertheless let users perform some fundamental tasks. You can look into these smaller programs as needed to help preserve data.
